Keeping Lahaina lands in lahaina hands

We hold space, not displace

What is a community land trust?

Community Land Trusts (CLT) are powerful and enduring structures for land protection and land justice. They are nonprofits that purchase and own land with the purpose of keeping it in community control, to be used as the community determines.

Long-term Land Preservation

At the heart of our work is the preservation of land for the long-term community benefit. Unlike government-run affordable housing programs that set limits on affordability — typically only 5 to 10 years — LCLT ensures that land remains permanently accessible to Lahaina residents who might otherwise be priced out of the housing market.

By holding land in the trust, we remove it from speculative markets. This means the Lahaina community will always have a say in how its land is used — whether for affordable housing, open space, or commercial properties.
